Description:

Blejski Vintgar Gorge is a 1.6 km long gorge that has been carved through the vertical rocks of the Hom and Bort hills by the Radovna River and framed by steep slopes of beech forest.

Situated about 4kms from the famous Lake Bled, Vintgar Gorge is just one of many stunning locations to be found in the Triglav National Park. It’s also one of the most accessible, and therefore extremely popular among visitors.

Vintgar gorge was discovered in 1891 by Mr Jakob Žumer, the mayor of Gorje, and Mr Benedikt Lergetporer, a cartographer and photographer from Bled. Both were amazed by the beauty and the mysterious character of this natural attraction. The gorge officially opened to the public in 1893. This section of the Radovna River is wild and there are several powerful rapids which thunder through and culminates at the 16m-high waterfall Šum, the highest fluvial waterfall in Slovenia. A wooden walkway with several bridges has been constructed for visitors to safely traverse the gorge and bridges lead a visitor to the end of the gorge.

The Vintgar Gorge is closed to the public during winter.
